Too much fun on the podcast
Welcome to The Beat by Rockstar CMO. Delighted you are here. I’m Ian Truscott, and I intend to share a mix of what’s caught my eye from the Rockstar CMO community, the latest discussions from the podcast and our street knowledge blog.
Hello!
Thank you for opening this email. It’s a privilege to be in your inbox, and if you like this and you noticed that I missed last week, apologies, and thank you for noticing.
I know the first rule of content marketing is to ship regularly and that there are graveyards full of newsletters, blogs and podcasts that lasted less than 5 of the thing and died. This will not be one of those…. I just happened to be travelling on business and got distracted. Yes, maybe there was a gin and tonic involved….
Anyway….. I am still fiddling with this Beehiiv thing and haven’t caved into the overwhelming urge to follow everyone I know and move their newsletter to LinkedIn. What do you think? I would appreciate your feedback.
Having missed a week, I have two podcast episodes to be pimping.
I’ll be honest, when I got introduced to tech startup CEO Brandi Johnson (by a good friend of Rockstar CMO Ted Rubin), I did not know the topic of coupon technology could be so insightful and fun; there was a lot of laughing in episode 155. And it was one of the most downloaded episodes we’ve had so far.
In that episode, Jeff and I also discussed developing an Ideal Customer Profile, and he wrote a splendid article on the topic.
The laughing did not end with Brandi, as in this week’s episode (156), business and success coach Caroline Kay, Founder of Vincita, returned for a third time with something a bit different, not a conversation about marketing but how to boost your positive intelligence and a really interesting chat about the saboteurs we all have in our heads. Really worth a listen, Caroline starts at around 29 minutes in if you really want to skip past the bit where Jeff and I discuss how to create a marketing team (Episode 156).
Honestly, this podcasting thing, it’s a commitment, but it’s a joy to chat with people I get to catch up with and meet. And on this week’s episode, I almost head-butted the microphone nodding so hard and sang out “hallelujah” as my chum and content marketing guru Robert Rose shared his views on being content first. If you don’t get the chance to listen, stop by his “hovel on the internet” and read on:
If you are a regular listener to the podcast, you may remember Emmanuel Probst from a couple of weeks ago. He’s written a book called “Assemblage” and this post on Branding Strategy Insider explains this concept:
Finally, a company that I provide a little bit of advice to are hiring - if product marketing is your thing, it could be a really fun gig:
If you have any feedback or suggestions for the podcast or this newsletter, please get in touch with me; I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for getting this far! Have a great week.
Cheers,
Ian

Monday Marketing Mojo
Finally, a tune to get your Monday marketing mojo working. In recent weeks I have gone with a theme for the newsletter, but this week, the theme was just fun - some Koo Koo Fun and a tune that is on repeat on my Spotify…
